trouble opening programs

It seems when I attempt to open "My Documents" and "My
Computer" an error message comes up saying "Windows
Explorer is going to shut down due to an error". It then
goes back to the desktop screen and wont let me in either
program. Can someone PLEASE help me figure out what is
wrong. I would appreciate it so much!

The System File Checker may be able to solve this. At Start > Run type
SFC /scannow
and press ENTER. If this does not help you may have to reinstall
Windows as described here: "How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade
(Reinstallation) of Windows XP"
