I've installed MSN messenger 6.1 and prefer using it over
windows messenger ver 4.7 however i can't remove windows
messenger 4.7 from my system.
Anyone have a solution?

Is there a difference between running this command line to remove Messenger
and removing the Windows Messenger component via the "Windows Components"
section of the "Add/Remove Programs" applet of control panel? If so could
you explain what that would be and why you would want to remove the Windows
Messenger in this more convoluted fashion?

When you do this your Windows Messenger won't show up in your taskbar
anymore

However if you want to completely remove/uninstall Windows Messenger from

Follow the steps and the pictures that the website has and you shouldn't
have anymore problems. Uninstalling Windows Messenger can disable some of
the messenger features such as Whiteboard Sharing, and others on MSN
Messenger if you're using that.

Yes they are different -- this completely removes Messenger and its files. In Windows
Components, the Messenger file itself is actually just hidden and the shortcuts removed, it
doesn't actually get completely erased.

There's a number of people who just want it completely gone, and this is how it's done.

Thank you for replying, Jonathon... I was asking because I removed both
Windows Messenger & MSN Messenger via Add/Remove Programs from an XP machine
and the thing is STILL logging my ID into messenger when that computer
boots. It's unreal it just won't stop.

So I'm hoping your command-line solution will do the trick.
