Pictures do not always come up on my web site

I set up a website with various pictures on it. I notice that sometimes
pictures do not appear when going to my website. Only an x is shown in the
upper left hand corner of a box. I end up having to reboot my webserver in
order for the pictures to reappear. What could be causing this and how can
I stop this from happening. I notice the problem occurs every couple of days
even when I have not published or touched anything on the website.
