My computer had ME. I installed XP Pro. What I wanted to
do was an upgrade. Now I have both, ME in drive C: and XP
Pro in drive D:, XP keep giving me the message "Low Disk
Space" " You are running very low on disk space on
SYSTEM_SAV (D:)
How can Iresolve this. All I want is to get rig of ME and
update to XP Pro on Drive C:
Thanks,
Rafael

Apparently you selected "New Installation"
and managed to install Windows XP on
the same partition as Windows ME. If you wanted to actually
upgrade over Windows ME, you should have chosen the default
"Upgrade" option during the setup phase.

This is very undesirable since stability issues will arise when
two different operating systems reside on the same partition.
The only way to correct this is to perform a "clean install".

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

1. Open your BIOS and set your CD Drive as the first bootable device.
2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. After installing Windows XP, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.

7. It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except for you mouse and keyboard, before installing XP.
After XP is installed, visit the support website of the manufacturer
of each hardware device to obtain the latest drivers or software
designed to work with Windows XP.

Dear Carey:
Thank you for your prompt response!
Can you please let me know how can I open my BIOS and set
your CD Drive as the first bootable device.
Thanks again,
Rafael

Hi, Rafael.

Each make and model of computer has its own method of booting from the CD
drive. Often it involves pressing a key - maybe F1, or Del, or ??? - just
as the computer starts to boot. Sometimes it's more user-friendly than
that. Instructions for your make and model probably are in your owner's
manual and sometimes they flash briefly on the screen. If not, post back
telling us which computer you have and somebody here may recognize it and
know the secret.
