standby function greyed out

i recently upgraded from xp home to xp pro.
I lost the ability to use standby and or hibernate for
that matter.
It is greyed out in the shut down menu. I don't have a
tab in the power options menu for hibernate.
I have the latest service pack downloads.

Does anyone have any ideas or advice?
