Hi, Pat!

Regardless of whether I'm working within "Documents" or
on my "Desktop", all I have to do is click on the folder
I wish to compress (which hi-lites it in blue), and move
it "over" the zipped folder into which I wish to compress
it. A teensy "plus" sign briefly appears, then (if it's
a large file) a window with a green slidebar showing that
the file is being "copied into" the zipped folder and,
voila, when I look into the zipped folder, there it is.

Yesterday, I created a new zipped folder, and compressed
several items into it. Then I moved several folders from
the old (corrupt) compressed folder into the new one.
However, when I then wanted to delete the old (now empty)
zipped folder, I was told that I couldn't.

Today, when I wanted to compress a file into the newly-
created zipped folder, I got the same error message as
before, with the old folder.

Nope, never had to. However, next time I want to
compress a file, I'll check out your work-around.

Ok Regina!

Forget my queries re: programs, and focus on
this 'rogue' compressed (zipped) folder.

Right-Click it, and choose 'properties', and look
at the 'General' tab - is it (under 'attributes' lower
half) by any chance marked 'Read only'?

If so remove that 'tick', and all should be well.

Dear Pat:

Wish it twere so...
Nope, not checked "read only".

While I was looking at Properties, I noted that I had
created this folder back in November, and was able to use
it for the last time on Feb. 19. I can't think of what's
changed since then. (I also checked the newer folder,
and nothing's amiss there either.)

I created yet a third compressed folder; next, I open the
old folder with "zipped folder"; then I left-click and
drag the contents one by one to the desktop (i.e.,
the "copy" function works); then I click and drag the
folders into the new zipped folder (i.e., the file
compression works). But.... when I try to put anything
into either of the older folders, or try to delete the
now-duplicated folders, or try to delete the entire
zipped folder, I get error messages.

Next, (for experimentation), I deleted one of the
compressed folders from the new zipped folder I just
created, and that worked fine as well. So I'm completely
stumped as to what's going on here.
