I have WindowsXP. I have HPScanJet3200C which ran well
with W98. Misplaced original scanning software CD and
connecting cable. I bought "direct cable connection-
male/male parallel cable; downloaded Precisionscan LT
Version 2.0 to disc. I think I installed correctly. The
scanner light is on. When I open the program from
the "start" list the error reads"HPPrecisionScan LT
cannot find your scanner." I contacted HP tech support
online and received directions to do what I have already
done. Could it be that the cable connection is
incorrect? Any other suggestions or information
concerning this problem?

Does it appear in scanners and printers? Maybe XP is working for the
scanner and not the HP software.

Wrong cable. DCC cables have the transmit and receive pins reversed on one
end. You need a straight through cable with, if necessary, a gender mender
on the scanner end.
