The Index in Help and Support does not come up. There is a small square with
an X in it at the top left corner. Can anyone help?

enabled??

I tried your suggestion, and yes, help is enabled. Any other ideas?

Hi Steve!

Give this a try:
Open a command prompt window and key in these commands:

cd %windir%\pchealth\helpctr\binaries
then
start /w helpsvc /install

The second command will take a minute or so to complete. When finished, see
if you can now access Index in Help and Support.

If you're logged in as Admin, then yes, you're in the right place to begin.

At the C:\Documents and Settings\Admin> prompt, key in:
cd %windir%\pchealth\helpctr\binaries
and hit ENTER
You should then be at a C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Binaries> prompt
At the above prompt, key in:
start /w helpsvc /install
and hit ENTER
Wait a minute or so and when you're returned to the
C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Binaries> prompt, you'll know that the "start /w
helpsvc /install" command has been processed.

Hi Patti, I followed your directions explicitly and everything went through
as you indicated. However, the end result is that the index was not added.
I did have the XP disk in the D Drive.
Thanks. Maybe you might have some additional ideas. Everything else in
Help and Support is working but the index. It used to work. So I did
something which prevents it from working. Thanks again

Well, it worked. I installed Q811630 and Index came up. However, when I
restarted and Help and Support will not work--"cannot display page". So I
have lost all of Help and Support. I am using a cable modem. The
connection is working. It may ahve some impact on reaching the web.
Does Help and Support come from the Web?
Installing Q811630 also seemed to present another problem.
Under Turb off computer, neither Shut Down nor Restart works. Standby is
working. So something became disrupted when I installed Q811630, although I
don't understand why it would have affected ShutDown. Any ideas on either
of these 2 problems? Thanks again, you have been very helpful.

I think I have it all working now. Shutdown is working. Help and support
is working, although some elements, like the failure to list support are
not. BUt I now have Index. Thanks.

It's interesting how some elements of Help and Support now come up, such as
Index, but others, such as the Search function and Support listings, used to
load but now don't. So soon as one problem is fixed, another pops up. Any
ideas?

Sorry for the tardiness in responding back........had to finish my last
nightshift of the workweek last night.

Sounds like the solution I proposed for you to try has helped you to go out
of the frying pan into the fire :-(

Do you get any error messages when you try to utilize the Search function,
or is the Search field not being displayed? Also, I'm not sure what you mean
by "Support listings".......are you meaning that the links don't work?

Thanks for your help. It looks like, with your help, the Index problem was
fixed, but others popped up. In reference to your questions:

When I use the search function, nothing comes up under search results.
There are no error messages. Something, say reference to Microsoft data
base, should come up in the Search Results panel, but nothing comes up.

When I click on Support at the top of the page, again, nothing happens. I
know that there should be some links to support in the left panel, but
nothing appears. This is no big deal.
