Error Message: cyclic redundancy check

I am trying to install some software on my Dell Inspiron
8600 (Windows XP Home) I keep getting an error.
Component transfer error Data Error (cyclic
redundancy check) Can anyone help?

Does this happen with all installation CDs? If not you may have a dirty
or scratched CD. If so then try removing the Optical Drive and
re-inserting it - may be simply a bad connection.
