View Full Version : Mystery File

I recently switched from dial up to dsl, and since have
been getting an icon on my desktop that appears from out
of nowhere. Windows cant open it, but when I click "open
with" and select notepad, I can see that the file
contains all the addresses in my address book. The icon
that appears on my desk top is that of a microsoft
window, and its file description is ~ (I don't know what
that symbol means either if someone can tell me, I'd
appreciate that too). I did a search for files named ~
and deleted it, but it comes back again from out of
nowhere. Can anyone clue me in as to whats going on with
that? My email has been working just fine, so why my
address book addresses appear in this mystery file that
constantly finds its way back to my desk top is beyond my
comprehension. Any suggestions are appreciated much.
THanks in advance for your response.

Hello,

Here is Kelly`s answer, Thank her, not me.

Hi Thomas,

This happens when you make a change and/or view the Address Book. You can
either rename it with a .dbx extension or delete it. It came about from
the updates numbered: 331923 and 330994. MS is aware of the issue and are
working on it.
