Is it better to turn off your computor when not using for
a period of time, like overnight, or let the computor
stay in the "away" mode?

I think you'll see about a 50-50 split for/against.
If you tweak your power settings properly, you can put the machine to sleep
with little wasted energy. Some say that the powering up/off causes the most
strain to the various components.

That is like the old question, which came first, the chicken or the egg?
There are arguments for each side. My only input is concerning the
environment the computer lives in. If it is subjected to smoke or fumes, the
off time is that much less time the fans have to pull contaminants into the
computer. For instance, one that is in an industrial environment as apposed
to one that is in a non smoking office. In your home, the possibility of
fire should be considered. I have seen them catch fire.
