Sound Recorder in X P

Additional information & revised question regarding using SOUND RECORDER in
Windows X P:

On my Windows 98 machine I use SOUND RECORDER to play WAVES.
I have configured it in FOLDER OPTIONS to OPEN when I click a WAV icon,
immediately PLAY the wave without clicking a button on the player, then
CLOSE.

On my XP machine I have used Tools > Folder Options > File Types to
successfully associate WAV files with Sound Recorder.

I did have one initial problem in that XP didn't let me associate a wave
with Sound Recorder until I copied Sound Recorder to a folder other than
WIINT/system32.

I want to configure Sound Recorder on my XP machine (as I have on my 98
machine) to OPEN when I click a WAVE, then PLAY the WAVE upon opening
without my having to click a button on Sound Recorder, then close as soon as
the WAVE is finished.

Unfortunately, I found that when you change a file association, the
"ADVANCED" button in Folder Options > File Types dissappears, and changes to
a "RESTORE" button. This makes it impossible to alter how the program
handles the file.

If I could access the "ADVANCED" button in FILE TYPES, I could do this.

Can anyone offer any assistance on how to change how a program handles a
file, after I change the file types association to that program?

3) In the "Edit File Types" dialog box, "Actions:"
- Click "Open" | [Edit]
- In the "Editing action for Type" dialog box,
- [Browse] to sound recorder
- If [Y] "Use DDE",
- then adjust setting in "Application:" box, below.

4) Repeat step (3) for "Play".

into "Advanced" AND was able to change the file association to Sound
Recorder while keeping access to "Advanced"

I made the changes that you suggested. However, while clicking on the WAVE
icon opened Sound Recorder, it still did not play.

Any ideas about what I am doing wrong?

found. Make sure the file name and path are correct" when I tried that
change. It seemed to do so with any other variation I tried using the word
"play".

Jan, I did type it in as: sndrec32.exe /Play "%L" in the edit "play"
section again, but i got the same response. I put the blank spaces just
where you did.

Hello Babel,

sndrec32.exe /Play "%L" /Close

The above line will cause a double-click on "file.WAV"
to open "Sound Recorder", to PLAY "file.WAV", then CLOSE
"Sound Recorder".

According to the above, you are able to get
"Sound Recorder" to open. So, please do steps (1) to (5).


1) Highlight the text in the edit "Play" section,
copy to the clipboard and paste into a blank text document


2) Highlight the text on the following line,

sndrec32.exe /Play "%L" /Close

copy to the clipboard and paste into the text-box labelled
"Application used to perform action:", then click [OK].


3) Highlight the text in the edit "Record" section,
copy to the clipboard and paste onto a new line in that
same text document, then click [OK].

4) Exit out of the "Folder Options" dialog box.

4) Double-click on "file.WAV".

5) If it still does not work, then copy the text from that
text document to the clipboard and paste into your reply.


(All of the above assumes that there is nothing actually
wrong with your system)
