Hi:
I have just newly installed my machine with Windows XP and when it
starts, the "My Computer" doesn't show my available cd-roms.
Previously I have Windows ME installed and it was able to detect both
my Creative 52x cd-rom and Yamaha EZ2100 cd-writer (I setup Creative
as master and Yamaha as slave and they are both IDE drives).
When I formatted the hard disk and boot up the BIOS still show that
both of my cd-rom are installed. But when I start download installing
Window XP, it start prompting that it need files from the cd's i386
directory and the machine can't detect my cd-rom. But the cd-rom for
sure is in the drive, else I would not be able to install it. Then I
copy all the i386 files to my secondary hard disk and have the Windows
setup look up files from the secondary hard disk instead of the
cd-rom. Then the setup continued and fully installed Windows XP.
Now I am in Windows XP and I was able to see my cd-rom drives under
the My Computer screen. The device manager said the IDE controllers
were installed properly but there isn't a cd-rom device category
displayed in the device manager screen. I tried installing the
drivers for Creative and still the cd-rom doesn't show up. Yamaha's
web site claim that my cd-write should be new enough and compatiable
with Windows XP. I tried every single way to bring those two drives
back but still no success.
Can someone help me as I am really frustrated with the issues. I
basically can't play any cd under Windows XP. Thanks for your time
and help.
Regards,
Lam
