View Full Version : Too many folders

Why are there so many folders in "Documents and
Settings"? I am the only person using this PC and it is
home-networked to a WinME PC, again only used by me. I'm
not planning to share either PC with anyone, would it be
safe to erase these folders? It's so damn hard to
something, have to look through every folder to find what
I'm looking for.
Can't even find the XP updates or the Temporary Internet
Files.
Would removing these folders cause any problems?

Create shortcuts, use the Search function, sort and name your
documents in a meaningful way.

---> "C:\Documents and Settings\your username here\Local
Settings\Temporary Internet Files"

I'm having the SAME problem and hate it. I'm the only who goes into Windows
Explorer and yet have to cope with all these excess useless folders no one
is using - give me W98SE anyday.

"give me W98SE anyday"
win98 had lots of files that were useless.
when i changed to winXP i did not look back.
XP is much more stable and is not as flat as 98.
for instance 98 had easter eggs and XP does not have any
easter eggs(or as yet unknown)

The useless folders where everything is stored in
triplicate. Admin and All Users and Username and
username/PC name and PC name. If there is only one user
why are there so many useless folders beyond what is
needed?

This folder doesn't seem to exist where you indicated. I
can find my cookies but not the TIF.

It's hidden. Use Internet Options> General> Temporary Internet Files to
clear these temp files out -or- set Folder Options> View to show hidden
files and folders.

==================
Exactly! Plus one folder alone came with 6 more folders inside of it.
:-( I will be the only user on this PC and don't need all these folders.
Why not sell the home addition without all these folders and let people add
them as they choose. It's easy enough to add a new folder.
