screen saver

I've just switched from Windows 98 to XP and no matter
what I do the screen saver won't activate. I've tried
everything. I've tried it on 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 minutes;
I've tried turning it off and turning it on; I've tried
rebooting the computer; I've tried kicking it! Any ideas
please?
