View Full Version : I have no Administrator
John Lutes
April 14th 03, 05:52 AM
I can log in as "Administrator" or as "my
name/administrator" but the unit does not recognise it.
I can use the computer but everything that needs
Administrative permission is locked out.
If I go to Windows Update it tells me I'm not the
Administrator. I have tried everything possible except
format and reload.
Does anyone know a solution?

Have you tried F8 to get boot menu (before Windows loads)
and using the default administrator account which is hidden
when you create an account?

Yes I have accessed my default (hidden) Administrator
account. It behaves the same way. I can use the computer
but EVERYTHING that requires Administrative permission is
locked out.
I think I need someone with experience with registry
experience to help me tweak things. I did an online scan
at Trend Micro, and found several "girlfriend" Trojans
and 4 other bugs of various types. After deleting them is
when this started.

Do a repair installation, since what you say happens even in the Safe =
Mode Admin account, here are the instructions;
http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
By the way, since you say you have the Pro version of XP, you don't need =
to go into Safe Mode to access the inbuilt Admin account.

XP has strong security to prevent hacking passwords...check
on your options with some smarter people. Start backing up
your data files, I'll bet your only option is going to be a
complete format and clean install. But before you do
anything rash, check these sites to see what they say...
