Can I remove the Hotfixes in my Add or Remove programs list?

Hi Don,

Sure you can, as long as you don't mind losing the ability to uninstall an
update. For most people, they will never need to anyways.

Set the Folder Options/View tab (in the Control Panel) to see hidden and
system folders.

Open Windows Explorer to the %Windir% folder (usually C:\Windows).

Locate the $NtUninstallQxxxxxx$ folders (these are compressed and are
usually blue) and delete them. These contain the information necessary to
uninstall each hotfix. It is only necessary to keep them if you want to
retain the option to uninstall a hotfix.

When finished, go to Add & Remove, select a hotfix for removal. You will get
an error message followed by a prompt to remove it from the listings.

If you want to remove the entries so the hotfix can no longer be
uninstalled, yes you can. If you do, you would probably also want to
remove the backup files that are stored on your hard drive for that
hotfix. MVP Doug Knox has written a small utility that will do both at
the same time safely. See
