How do I get Spy-bot to work on my XP home addition? I've downloaded it
several times but all that appears is a brief flash on the monitor when I
try to run it. It works perfectly on our 3 PCs running W98SE.
Anyone........

I have XP Home. Spybot S&D works fine for me. I don't know what is wrong
with your installation.
Try this: Uninstall Spybot S&D from Add/Remove Programs. Reboot in the
Safe Mode. Make sure any Anti Virus software is not running. Your modem should
not be connected in the Safe Mode. Install Spybot S&D from Add/Remove Programs.
Use Ctrl + Alt + Del to make sure you have nothing running under Applications
except the install program. When Spybot S&D is installed, reboot.

Hope this helps. Let us know.

** I uninstalled and reinstalled it 3 times then just gave up! Although
Ad-Aware works fine, Spy-Bot is a much better program. Two were from
different websites.

** If I uninstall it from there how can I reinstall it - it wont appear
anymore after being uninstalled. How would I get it to appear there after
uninstalling it????
How do I INSTALL Spy-Bot using Add/Remove programs? I've never installed
anything that way before. I never needed to with W98.

** Which install program? I don't know how to install software using
Add/Remove. Do you mean the Spy-Bot install???

How did you Uninstall? Do you mean DELETE? Open Help/type: add
program/click the arrow.
Unistalling does not remove the setup file from your machine.
-----------------------------------------
I think this might apply to you:

{What can I do if Spybot-S&D already starts scanning, and exits immediately
afterwards?

This could happen if you enable all of the Program automation settings (to
auto-close the program after scan on program start will be removed in the next
bugfix).

And due to a bug not reproducable but happening, during some installs random
instead of the default settings are applied. In that case, all Automation
options could be enabled, forcing the program to scan and exit automatically
afterwards. As this will not even allow you to enter the program, you need to
reset the settings. There are two ways to do this:

1. You can delete the configuration file (which is named Configuration.ini).
Where it is located depends on your Windows version...
For Windows 95/98, the file is located in C:\Windows\Application Data\Spybot -
Search & Destroy\.
For Windows ME, the file is located in C:\Windows\All Users\Application
Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\.
For Windows NT/2000/XP, you will find it in C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\.
Either delete that file, or edit it (for example in notepad), and set all the
Automation values in it to zero.

2. You can download a small tool that will do those changes for you:
http://spybot.eon.net.au/files/resetsettings.zip .}
