Display resolution

My normal display resolution should be 1024 x 768. However
when I start my computer it seems to momentarily display
the correct resolution and then after 2-3 seconds of blank
screen the display resolution goes to 640 x 480.
I can manually reset it using display properties, etc. but
after next restart it goes back to 640 x 480. I have
downloaded and installed latest video drivers but makes no
difference.
Does anyone know how to correct this?

Long shot but worth checking out: Check that your refresh rate isn't set
too high for the resolution.
