Something has added ASP.NET as a password protected
User Account to my computer during the past few days.
This I'm sure is not a virus sort of thing, but what
is it supposed to do for me - or to me? and what put
it there? Anyone else finding this surprise?
thanks -
Huck

You must have installed the DotNet framework update at some point.

Steve -
You are correct, Dot Framework was required by another
program. This was my suspicion too.
Is there any 'downside' to this added 'user'?

Neil Rubenking reports exactly the same on page 70
of March 2004 PC Magazine. Good Call.

It gets put there when you install the Windows Update for the '.NET
Framework'. You can avoid having it show on Welcome: Use TweakUI - one
of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP1, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Its Logon page, uncheck the item for 'Show ASP.Net on welcome' and Apply

Is there any harm in deleting the asp.net account?
