power schemes won't work ??

I re-installed Windows XP and for some reason my schemes in power options
will not work anymore, I try to get the scheme to turn off monitor and turn
off hard disk and it won't do anything, is there a way to just trouble shoot
the power scheme options instead of re-installing Windows XP Home.

Make sure the power scheme is set to Home/Office Desk. Also, NEVER, EVER use
a 3D screen saver with XP. Even if you have the so-called "Fix" downloaded,
it will corrupt the power scheme and prevent it from working. I had to
re-install 3 times before I found out the problem.
