hi sorry forgot to put email on last post
new user with xp cannot open microsoft word document I
sent I have windows 2000
Is she going to have to buy microsoft office to open word
documents?

Windows XP is an "Operating System". It does not include Microsoft Word.

Wordpad.exe may be able to open some versions of Microsoft
Word. But a more universal format to send MS Word documents
is to use *.rtf (rich text format).

Not at all Open Office will read and edit Word documents and it's FREE.

Also update your AV prog pretty rapidly.....

Open Office is a free Office suite. Handles Word documents.
