Windows Explorer

Does anyone know how I get windows explorer to open so
that it always shows the explorer bar's "folder view" open
as a left-hand column?

You start it with the /e parameter

Open Explorer. Click Tools, select Folder Options. Go to the File
Types tab. Select "Folder" from the list. Click the Advanced button.
Select Explore and click the Set Default button. Click OK, then click
OK again. That will set folder view as the default system-wide until
you change it again manually.
