pop up

I have recently been getting an annoying pop up about every
3 minutes on my lap top screen. I have had the lap top
since June and have not had this problem.
The pop up states that the web page is unavailable and that
I should either stay offline or connect. However, I am not
using any programs at the time that this pop up shows up.
I tried to fix this pop up in any of the programs that I
have recently updated, but to no avail. The only program
that I have downloaded is an upgrade to Windows Media
Player. Any help?

Do a Google search and get Ad-aware and Spybot Search & Destroy. They are
both free. After you install them, do a "check for updates" on them, then
run the programs. Something is trying to dial out and report home is what it
sounds like...or worse.
