cable modem problems

when i connect my cable modem my computer sees the
connection at 100 MPS and when i click on status of that
connection the send and recieve numbers are increasing but
when i click on internet explorer i get the blank page
unable to find server i have had this connected to a cable
modem in the past and it worked great. why might this be
happening and how can I fix it. I have limited knowledge
about these sort of things.
