When you click the Internet Explorer icon, window may flash a second and
quits. Or, it may show an Error-Reporting dialog. This may be due to a
malware Browser Helper Object which causes Internet Explorer process to
terminate. If you see the Error-Reporting dialog, click "to see what data
this report contains" and identify the Module Name causing this error. In
most cases, it may be the spyware DLL. Therefore, reinstalling Internet
Explorer [in case of a spyware DLL] may not help.

## When the "Error Reporting" window sends the information and closes
that's it. THERE IS NO REPORT. It closes and gives me no choices to see
any problems it may have found. And now it doesn't seem to work at all.
Note: It never did give me a *choice* to see what the problem may be since I
have this PC. How do I find and remove the parasite when I have no access
to the Error Reporting Window's findings? There is no "MORE INFORMATION"
link there to click on. Without THAT information I can't see how I can
proceed. How is this feature turned on in the "Error Reporting" window?
There are no tabs or buttons on that window.

When I went through the below routine with the HP tech it ended up costing
us almost $300 because the PC never did reboot afterward. The XP CDs did
not work to boot it (it didn't look at the drives) and we couldn't get to do
a system recovery or "anything" else. Evidently some XP-Home systems can't
boot when these things are clearned from the General Tab.

1.. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click
OK.
2.. On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear
the Process System.ini File, Process WIn.ini File, and Load Startup Items
check boxes. You cannot clear the Use Original Boot.ini check box.
3.. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services
check box, and then click Disable All.
4.. Click OK, and then click Restart to restart your computer.
5.. After Windows starts, determine whether the symptoms are still
present.

----------------------
To test with: Disable third-party browser extensions in Internet
Explorer

1. Click Start, Run, and type inetcpl.cpl. [or control inetcpl.cpl]
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Under Browsing, clear the Enable third-party browser extensions
(requires restart) check box.
4. Restart Internet Explorer.

---------------------------------------
*Then, you need to eliminate the parasites*

IE started having a problems 2 nights ago. It would "stop responding" and
the Error Reporting window opens. When the error report completed I would
click on Close and BOTH would close. Now tonight BOTH "stop responding."

I get the Error Reporting window which ALSO locks up and "stops responding."
What can the problem be now?

Norton, Spy-bot and AdAware find nothing. All are up to date.

Hi F.S.,
I am sorry your p.c. is sick again.
It's been a few weeks since the last time we at this N.G. have heard from
you.
There is a small freebe download program from www.definitivesolutions.com,
that is called 'BHO Daemon' that is usefull in showing what BHO's are
installed on your p.c..
It is up to you to decide good from bad.
---------------------------------------
| *Then, you need to eliminate the parasites*
| ---------------------------------------

Another site that can detect parasites just by logging on is
'and.doxdesk.com'.
Good to save as a favourite.

Rob.

============================
Thanks Rob. I will check this out and see what turns up. I don't know how
these things (if a new one is there) get on my PC because I have ZoneAlarm,
Norton, Spy-bot and AdAware and keep the last 3 updated. I never open
attachments and am careful what I download (then scan with Norton). I don't
visit porn or Warez sites..... I have all the critical updates from MS.
I'll let you know if anything "turns up".

BTW another odd problem that just started is the sounds on my PC keep
reverting to NONE. I'm the only user and every other day or so I have to go
to sounds,.... choose my saved "sounds".... then they're back to none
again - AAARGGGHHHHH!!!!!

Again - thanks!

My scenario is about the same but I use a different antivirus program and
firewall. Had a bit of spyware sneak its way onto the system. Relatively
new snippet as it required the most recent update from Spybot S&D to detect
and remove. Up until its removal, I had terrible time connecting to
websites. Once at a site, could move around within it just fine but
changing to a new site? Lag-City. Symptoms similar to a dns problem but
manual pings indicated otherwise. It's "nasty" out there!

All better for now,
