Just how does one go about installing hotfixes? I need someone to explain this in "computer kindergarten" terms, step-by-step, please.

Thank you, Kaylene. I do the Windows Update on a regular basis. I just don't understand what the hotfixes are, and how to use/install them. Are they automatically installed when I run Update, and install those updates?

If you are running WUP on a regular basis then they are installed automatically.
The hotfixes are updates to the Win Operating System to fix bugs etc and plug
security holes. The critical ones are necessary.
If you go to the windows update site
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
Wait until it loads and then look at the Other Options on the left side on the
list
and have a look at View Installation History
That should tell you what has been installed on your system.
