creating a web page!

Hi everyone
Im trying to create my own web page, but as usual I am
having problems. Im getting instructions from ntl on how
to create my own basic web page, but my problem is when i
go to save it in notepad, and I go to refresh my browser
nothing happens.When I save in notepad in the file name i
type the name of my file that im saving, then save as
type, i select all files, as i cannot see a htm or html
in the select all files section, underneath is the
Encoding which is on ANSI, the other options being
Unicode,big indian,and UTF-8. As you can see I am pritty
new to computing, but im determined i will do it.But at
the moment i need help from you guys,

Just to be clear, the approach would be: Create the file in Notepad to begin
with, and save it with .HTM or .HTML ending. Click on the file to launch it
in your default browser. Then open the file in Notepad and, as you make
changes, save them (Ctrl+S will do fine) then refresh the browser. You
should see your changes.

Personally, I prefer EditPad which is a Notepad substitute that has tabbed
multiple document handling and terrific undo features. Links for it are on

Yes, save, pick all files, and be sure to type the .HTM or .HTML as part of
the filename in the first box (filename). You shouldn't have to modify the
encoding at all, just leave as ANSI.

Just adding that EditPad can save that .HTM and then
force the browser to refresh, all via [Ctrl]+[E] or a
toolbar button.

Hello Jim,

No. My name is, perhaps, more common than "Jim" (James).

But I do *use* EditPad for all text work, including
writing HTML. (Although I have not gone as far as
actually replacing "Notepad.exe" - see...

I just mentioned that shortcut to amplify
what you wrote about editing and testing HTML.
