each time I select a restore point and I created 3 since
installing windows xp all I get is a message telling me
that I cannot restore to this point which is very annoying
when you rely on this facility for system recovery.
can anyone tell me what is wrong please. thanks

Sometimes system restore points become corrupt, and the only thing to
do is turn off system restore, then restart it again (which destroys
all points). It's a very good idea to have a secondary backup.
Frequently recommended here is erunt.zip, a 575K freeware utility.
