The System Restore feature in XP is simply a pile of crap
programming. Restore points become useless when doing such
simple things as disk optimizing and cleanup. This is a
CPU hog and total waste of time. Simply turn it off and
save yourself the headaches. Then if you want a good
restore option install the NTBackup off your XP HE disk
found in the valueadd\msft\ntbackup folder. Keep smiling.

Well I think System Restore is great. It has worked faultlessly for
me for two years and fixed my system on a number of occasions.

I use it often too. If not for restoring, at least for creating restore
points right before I do something stupid... errm, I mean new.

For the times that I needed to restore, it was invaluable. The current
image backup that I usually have on hand is available as well but
recovering with System Restore is faster and quite adequate for small
"oops" situations.
