I sign off messenger and am out of outlook express and so
why does messenger continue to make requests of my firewall
to use the internet? I see additional port rules created
in the Windows XP firewall automatically popped in there
all of the time and thus I don't know what is going on. I
have every security upgrade, test done, I have norton
antivirus and all updates and autoprotection. What is
going on with messenger? Is this the new way of remote
desktop connection without permissions?

Greetings John,
Do you have Norton Antivirus installed? Recent versions of Norton Antivirus added a new
"instant messaging scanning" feature, which can conflict with Windows Messenger and cause it
to also keep starting. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus
icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'),
click Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK.
