MS internet explorer down. Can't get it up and running.
Tried downloads/patches to no avail. Had to hook up
netscape as an alternate service. Prefer MS internet explorer.
Any ideas?

You give no clue as to what you did to "recover" nor whether you currently
now finally have up-to-date anti-virus software running, so it's a bit
hard to advise you, especially without the specific virus/trojan/exploit
involved. It might jsut be a matter of using a spyware scanner, the virus
might still be active, you might need to repair the IE install ... but
whatever it is, it'd be just a guess because you haven't included any real
detail.
In the meanwhile, you can download & install & run Ad-Aware from
http://www.lavasoftusa.com and that might help you get rid of traces of
it, but if that doesn't suffice then you need to post back with more
detail (which exploit specifically, what you did to clean it, etc.)
INCLUDING if you've finally gotten your system properly protected, as
otherwise one can assume you're either still infected or vulnerable enough
to have let yourself get re-infected even though it's pretty hard to
imagine ANYONE running without up-to-date AV protection in this day & age.
