Upgrade from Windows ME and 98?

Hi I have a laptop (650 Mhz Celeron) that is running on
Windows ME and a desktop (Pentium II 400 Mhz) running on
windows 98 SE. Would it be OK to upgrade these computers
to Windows XP?

Two computers means you need to buy two copies.

Check this link, Especially #3 Upgrade Advisor, to be sure the
computers are ready for Windows XP:

Also check with the manufacturers.
It is very likely that you will not be able to upgrade the laptop
because of the proprietary components and lack of Windows XP Drivers.

Yes, both would probably upgrade fine, but for the price of the two upgrade
license and the XP software updates for your AV CD burning and disk utility
software, you could add a much faster brand new system with XP pre installed
and most likely bundled with XP AV, CD burning software, and most likely a
DVD drive.
You can easily and cheaply network the older systems; retaining the ability
to use all your software and hardware and share the systems between the
computers. There is really no compelling reason to upgrade a well configured
Windows 98/Me or 2000 system to XP in a home environment. If the system is
not sufficient for your needs, it is very likely upgrading the system will
cost more than purchasing a new system with much more power and bundled
software than you will ever get upgrading the old system.
