Critical update Q817287 won't install

This critical update downloads but won't install. It has
tried each day for the past month. I tried to do it
manually with the same results. I also disabled the
antivirus program but that didn't help. It has attempted
to install about 30 times. The message always comes back
installation failure.

I've had the same problem and I have already tried disabling the firewall.
Any other suggestions? Has anyone installed this update?

Rename the folder windows\system32\catroot2 and reboot. Then get -
only - Q817287 and install it; you should then be able to carry on
with other updates, and the problem will not recur

about? It (catroot2) is a folder you dip****, and there is no FILE =
"catroot2". Now if you think that folder icons are files, well, then =

I of course misspoke/typed. What I meant to say is do NOT rename or delete
the folder 'windows' which the reader of the response could iterpret 'rename
the folders windows/system32----'
