PC won't turn off / restart or log off

When I select either restart / turn off computer or log
off buttons nothing happens - I have to manually turn off
PC and then run scan disk. I am running XP Home.

That happens to me often enough . I shut down, and when I startup
again, at any time, no problems indicated at all!!. I don't believe
you have to run ScanDisk wih XP as we did in WIN98. That's the beauty
of XP. Once in a while I rUn CHKDSK, however. And I guess it wouldn't
hurt to run scandisk..but I never have.
