downloading internet files

I am hoping that someone else has encountered this
problem!!

Recently I downloaded internet files and chose to save
them instead of opening but upon completion of the
downloads I went to retrieve and view the information
from desktop only for nothing to happen not even a
responding message, they just would not open!!

I already had adobe installed on computer so it cant be
that.

HELP AS THIS IS INFURIATING!!!

Don't download files to the desktop. Download them to a folder in "My
Documents" instead. the desktop is notorious for corrupting files.
