Help please. My new computer (loaded with Windows XP Home Edition) of less
than a month won't turn off. Not even when I click Turn Off or Restart. I
have resorted to pulling the plug out of the wall. I foolishly went into the
Control Panel to snoop around and have messed something up. FYI , I also
changed the drive from FAT 32 to NTFS after talking to so-called expert at
local electronics store. Proble is when I want to shut; the computer down I
click on Start, and Turn Off computer. At this point the background fades to
black and white while the 3-choice window box of Standby, Turn Off and
Restart stays in colors. Any help would be appreciated. Just call me
Stupid!!

Did you try to click on any of the colored buttons (Standby Turn Off
Restart?) Try the pretty red one.

Sam !
Try this, if I have understood your problem correctly.
First, do not turn your computer off. First--Log off , and let the computer
work a bit , closing out what it needs to. Then you should get another popup
style window that offers the standby/turn off /restart--- options. At that
time you can select TURN OFF and your computer should turn off in a few
seconds. Clicking on either of the other two options should do what they
say.
Remember , first click on LOG OFF, THEN WAIT.
Hope I understood your problem . And hope this helps.
If not then probably someone who knows much more than I will assist you.
