After I download Critical Windows Updates, I try to open
XP downloads but then it just reopens the same dialog
box, showing all the categories (with "18" by XP so I
know there are downloads I could get, with a dialog
asking if I want to scan for updates - just like it does
when I first go to Windows Update page!

why do you want to "Open" them...they are an integral part of XP....

Hi Will,
First, are the downloads successfully installed? (after an item has =
succeeded, there is on-screen verbiage "....update successful...".
Please re-explain (clarify) what you mean by "try to open XP download".
Either you have a repeating dialog, or you are pressing a selection on =
the left-hand frame....when you should not, OR....
you are having this problem where you keep seeing "update now":
For Windows XP, its is "mandatory" that Cryptographic Service, plus RPC =
Remote Procedure Call,=20
plus System Restore be *enabled* & workable-- before going to Windows =
Update site.
Be sure you have not disabled those.
