Is there a way that you can make WinXP shut down after a certain duration i.e., without using any external programs. I want use tools readily available in WinXP such as command line propmt.
NB... the power scheme options to shut down after idle after X minutes has bben tried, the computer has shut down irrespective of a program running or not.
Thanks in advance!

You have a command named "shutdown" in WinXP Pro.
open a Command-shell and type Shutdown to get help about it.
You could easily add this to a scheduled task.
