I had the same problem with XP Home. Frustrating to say
the least.
Someone here recommended doing just what you have done,
BUT rather than hitting the "X" to close the folder, use
the drop down menu (File, Close)to close the folder. It
seemed to work.
PS. For what it's worth, I didn't do it in Explorer. I
did it in Control Panel.
