I'd appreciate it is someone could tell me:

(a) the origin of those silly fffe files which languish in
the Windows directory and
(b) A definitive means of preventing them from
occurring.

Ta.

A search on google for "fff files" brought up several possibilities. Below
is an article that describes one possible cause:

OFF2000: Files Whose Name Begins with "fff" Appear in Windows Folder

Thank you for your assistance. I have subsequently noticed that the dates of
all these files predate the installation of XP. None since.

If those files were created by mdm.exe, they are no longer needed and can
be safely deleted. If nervous about doing that or not sure where they came
from, move the files to another folder for a week or two. If nothing
complains about a "missing" fffe* file, you can toss them.
