does anyone know whether windows xp home edition contains
excel and powerpoint?

No version of Windows has ever come with those applications. Those can be
purchased seperately or with Microsoft Office.

No, it doesn't. Neither does the Pro version. Excel and Powerpoint are
part of the MS Office suite.

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.
