I have a 2 Dell computers, both with an OEM XP Family OS.
Both computers are experiencing bombing Windows Explorer
app. when browsing shared drives over my network.
I identified the problem as being KB 831938 and learned
that their is a hotfix available. When I tried to obtain
this patch via the Microsoft support software, it pointed
me to my OEM provider. Dell in this case...
I opened a call with Dell support, but now I am a week
later and I still son't have a solution.
Can someone help me this???
thx

Call Dell again, and again, and again, until they fix you. Dell is your oem
and they give you support. They should give you or get the patch for you.

Hi
As far as I know, Microsoft will supply you with the hotfix even if it
is a Dell computer with an OEM version of WinXP. To make it easier,
just don't mention that you have a Dell computer at all, just ask for
the hotfix at once without going into a long story about previous
problems getting the hotfix etc.
As the article states, you need to call Microsoft Product Support Services to
obtain it (outside the US, customers should contact their local Microsoft
subsidiary.). The support call will be be free as long as you refer to the
Knowledge Base Article number (Q831938) and ask for nothing more.
You will need to find the phone number from here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;[LN];CNTACTMS
For WinXP:
In the wizard, Select WinXP, and Basic, and then "It was purchased separately"
For USA, you end up here
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;en-us;Prodoffer31
Use phone number 425-635-3311
