I hope someone here can help with this although it isn't
damaging my pc or anything it is driving me mad!!!! lol
I have my .net password attached to my profile on xp and
so if i get email it says so on the log on screen for xp.
My probelem is that a friend used my logon to check his
hotmail account and now when i log on to xp it tells me he
has email aswell as myself and it is driving me mad!!!!
Does anyone know how to stop my xp profile looking to see
if he has email and just look for mine??
this happened before and the only way i got rid was to
create a new profile on xp and delete the old one but i
don't want to do this cos of the hassle involved etc etc
Many Thanks i advance

Greetings Matthew,
It's not actually "looking", it's simply stored the number of e-mails he had waiting in the
registry.
To correct this, click Start, then click Run and enter "regedit.exe" and click OK. Then
navigate (it's like Windows Explorer) to My
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Wind ows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\yourmsnname@hotmail. com
Where is the passport. Double-click the MessageCount and enter 0 as
the value (this will set back to none). Then click OK, close the registry editor, and log
out.
If you want to disable this feature all together (no registry changes required), download the
TweakUI powertoy:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp (see on the right).
After you have TweakUI installed, click Start, All Programs, Powertoys for Windows XP, and
choose TweakUI for Windows XP. In the TweakUI window, on the left, click the '+' next to
Logon, and choose Unread Mail. Uncheck 'Show unread mail on Welcome screen' and click OK.
