when we plug them in they're fine. Tried swaping chords around but it
appears to be isolated to this device. I've tried installing the drivers
that came with it buit it comes but evertime I try to update or roll back to
the ones provided it won't or can't do it.

Why would that make a difference? As far as I know, and I may be wrong
here, USB2 devices are backward compatible with USB1.1

Yes, that is correct. It would just give a warning that it would slower in
performance, however I have never really seen a difference between XP Pro
systems.

Hi,
As Kelly said, this is correct, but I've seen some USB2 drives balk at 1.0
connections. I suspect more however that this is a power issue - the
connecting port is no supplying enough power for the drive. A powered hub
may be the answer.

Does it show at all in Device Manager? And if so does that show it as
working, or as unable to start? (and if working, have you partitioned
and formatted it?)

Alex,
>(and if working, have you partitioned and formatted it?)
Am curious with your above question. As I have an 80 gig external that has
never been formatted or partitioned, running fine.
Other than that, Rick may have a very legit point with SP1, as Media Center
came with it here, however, for other USB issues, it could merely be that
the setting needs to be activated via the bios.
