I deleted my wife's favorite games

In a classic case of "fools rush in" I deleted the
Solitare and Freecell games that came with XP. How can I
get the programs and how do I re-install them?

Go to Control Panel, Add Remove Programs,Add remove windows
components,Accessories and Utilities,click details and select games. You may
need to uncheck and recheck the games you want and it may ask you to insert
the windows XP disk. Take a chance and go to recycle bin it may be there, it
it is choose restore.

Did you actually delete the game "exe" or did you just delete the ICON?
