You haven't been at it for very long or you wouldn't make
a statement like "system restore is a VERY useful tool. It
is in fact the worst piece of programming in XP and is
completely unreliable. System restore points are always
being deleted or altered making them useless. Just about
every disk optimization you do will adversely affects
system restore and only a fool would rely on it. NT Backup
is the far superior tool and you will find it on your disk
in valueadd\msft\ntbackup. Once you have this then you are
much safer. Turn off the useless system restore and save
CPU and HDD resources. I have had XP HE since it's release
over two years ago. Have fun.
