On booting up the resolution starts at 800x600 where it
is supposed to be but then drops to 640x480 after which a
baloon appears saying resolution too low click on baloon
to increase to 800x600. When you do the screen goes black
and finally resets to 800x600 where it should have been
in the first place. This has happened only rcently. When
I go to control panel-display-settings and reset to
800x600 I get NO dialog box asking to "Keep new settings".

I know others have had similar experience. Has anyone
found the solution?

Marty:
Sounds as if it could be software that you have installed recently. First
you can try resetting your computer. Reboot your computer. At the blue
screen start tapping "F1 key". When the BIOS setup utility appears press F5
to reload default settings, High light "yes" then "enter. Then press F10 +
highlight "yes" + enter to exit the setup utility. If that doesn't help you
might try the following. You can remove the recently installed items by
performing a system restore. Or manually one by one to see if you can
correct the problem that way. It doesn't sound like a simple setting
correction.
