disappearing CD/DVD drive

Some applications on my XP Home installation make my
CD/DVD drive disappear (not show up on "My Computer"
window). Upon restart, the drive shows back up, but may
fail to read a CD or DVD when placed in the tray Any help?

Hi Chris,

Start here, good luck and keep us posted!

Save the file below to your hard drive. Navigate to where you saved it and
double click the file. A confirmation dialog will appear when the script is
done. You may need to reboot for the change to take effect.

Restore CD/DVD in Explorer
