I connect my XP notebook to a Server 2003 everyday. But then I am in this
big domain and there's a ton of security.

Let's figure out what is different.

Since you have some Home installs and Home cannot join a domain, I am making
the assumption that your network configuration is Workgroup and all machines
are on the same workgroup name. You will have a problem with the Home
machines once you do make the connection. Remember : click save password.

ot Use Network Printer If Your Password Is Not Saved

But until then, do you get any errors? Are the notebook users logged on
with local user rights, admin rights?

Windows 98 connects to the server using SMB protocols. Windows XP connects
using the RPC protocols.

I am not sure what you mean when you state that all desktops and notebooks
can login to the server.

Sorry I do not have a slam dunk answer and only ask more questions, but if
it was that easy you would have already figured it out.
